Child and Youth Care Worker

Lennox Island First Nation Health Program

General Description:

The Youth worker will be part of an interdisciplinary team that serves children, adolescents, and their families. The successful candidate will promote the personal, cultural, educational and social development of youth in the community. This position will be full-time/contractual, August 2016-March 2018 with the possibility of renewal and permanence.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop programming that will support the engagement of high-risk youth who are using substances and/or disconnected from the community by establishing programming to meet needs and interests;
  • Establish programming that will focus on strength based approaches to building resiliency and self-esteem;
  • Assist youth in identifying individual plans and goals.
  • Assist youth in learning more about and/or connecting with cultural practices, and traditions;
  • Ensure that youth are engaged and connected to programming and supports offered through Lennox Island First Nation and outside agencies. Assist youth in assessing outside services, working with the Lennox Island Health Team;
  • Keep current on all social concerns and trends, and as required attend professional development activities in order to remain informed regarding issues affecting youth;
  • Actively assist in the ongoing development and review of program plans.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma, Child and Youth Care Worker;
  • Well-developed communication, analytical and case-management skills, as well as a commitment to providing quality client service by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
  • Applicants must exercise a high standard of professionalism with sound judgment and also have the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Experience in coordinating and facilitating workshops, classes, and groups;
  • Experience with Aboriginal culture and communities would be considered an asset;
  • Well developed interpersonal skills including oral and written communication;
  • Valid driver’s license;
