Culture ~ Spirituality

Kluskap is the spiritual guide of the Mi’kmaq people. The Great Spirit who created the universe sent Kluskap to the Mi’kmaq to teach them how to take care of the land, how to hunt and how to live in harmony with all of nature. The Mi’kmaq consider Kluskap to be a cultural advocate or hero. The legends are a part of Mi’kmaq culture to explain how places came to be. Within the legends Kluskap provided the Mi’kmaq with important lessons, which taught values and morals. The Mi’kmaq would teach their children how to live in balance with nature and all that encompasses it based on the doctrines of Kluskap.
