The lobster food fishery for Lennox Island is a long term project. Any Lennox Island Band Member 18 years of age will have the option of either applying to receive one tag for their own use or apply to have the Band fish their lobster for them. For the people who chose to have the Band fish for them their names will be put on a distribution list for a particular day each week. When it is their day to receive lobster each week the catch from approximately 100 lobster traps fished will be divided up evenly by the amount of people on the list for that day.
The Food Fishery program will employ up to 6 community members, (Food Fishery Coordinator, Captain, Deckhand, and three monitors) to manage this fishery. Duties include development of fishing plans, monitoring and reporting all catches to the Food Fishery Coordinator and Fisheries Officers, record tag and numbers of fish caught and distribution of the lobster to community members on and off the reserve.
This year the Food Fishery starts August 2nd 2010, please contact Marsha Myers to put your name in.
Lobsters can be picked up on Lennox Island , or on Thursday and Friday we deliver to St.Eleanor's Irving , Middleton Irving , and MikMaq Family Reasource center in Chtown.
