Lennox Island First Nation – Education

Two (2) term positions available: One (1) Full-time time Kindergarten Teaching Position, One (1) Full-Time Grade 3/4 Teaching Position. These are term positions for the 2016-17 school year.

Our Mi’kmaq community is strong, proud and vibrant. Steeped in Mi’kmaq culture and traditions that have been passed down to us since time immemorial, our community has embraced our past and present and we look forward to our journey into a bright and thriving future.  Approximately 450 residents call this special place “home” while countless thousands of others can trace their roots back to this fair soil. John J. Sark Memorial has four classrooms: a kindergarten and combined classrooms for grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6. Between forty and fifty students attend John J. Sark Memorial School every year and ten people are employed within the school. The curriculum within the school includes Mi’kmaq language and culture, music and religion.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Education degree from an accredited institution
  • Must have excellent classroom management, behavioral management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a planning team
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing a wide range of academic, social, emotion, and behavioral needs of children
  • Relevant cultural experience
  • Knowledge of First Nation education development, socio-economic conditions, and culture of First Nation communities
  • Willing to work collaboratively with staff, parents and administration
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A broad knowledge of child development and teaching methods
  • Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners
  • High level of attention to confidentiality
  • Willing to participate in ongoing learning
